What do you think? Let us know on Twitter here: What Potter Characters Could Cameo In Fantastic Beasts? Maybe it’s just that we’re imagining Eddie Redmayne playing The Doctor in a big budget movie and getting slightly resentful that it’ll probably never happen. Newt Scamander is either a Time Lord or a male Mary Poppins. OK, so we’re being slightly flippant, but you’ve got the admit the similarities are spooky. Secondly, have you looked at his costume? Yes, we know it’s fitting attire for a gentleman explorer of the 1920s, but it’s exactly the sort of clobber that The Doctor would wear (well, maybe not Christopher Eccleston’s incarnation, he’s much too northern working class for posh gear like that).įinally, Redmayne’s charatcer is described as a peripatetic and “uniquely skilled English wizard”, which could just as easily describe The Doctor as it could Newt Scamander. Sound familiar? Yes, it sounds to us like Newt has his very own TARDIS, a Time Lord’s preferred method of transport, that’s much larger on the inside than it appears. His method of storage? A magical brief case that’s “way-way-way-bigger-on-the-inside”. Those “beasts” escape from Newt’s collection while there, triggering the events of the movie.Ībove: Imagine a Sonic Screwdriver instead of a magic wand The plot outline for ‘Fantastic Beasts’ has been revealed and based on the first photos from the film, coupled with this new information, we’ve come to the conclusion that Eddie Redmayne is playing Doctor Who in the new ‘Harry Potter’, in all but name.Įntertainment Weekly has the scoop on the film’s basic plotline ( read it all here) and they’ve revealed that Redmayne’s character, a magizoologist named Newt Scamander, visits New York to collect “rare and endangered magical creatures”.
